Artist Spotlight – Zenescope Comics

ZENESCOPE COMICS
This year marks the first year for Zenescope Comics at Dragon Con. They are known for using popular fairy tale and fantasy figures in stories focusing on adventure and horror. Their line is lead by the long running Grimm Fairy Tales title, and they have expanded their stories to popular settings such as Wodnerland and Oz. Many of the company’s top cover artists will also be attending Dragon Con this year. They include:

Artist Spotlight – Mike Grell, Dean Motter, Matt Frank

MIKE GRELL
He is the legendary writer/artist most recognized for his work at DC Comics. In the 70’s he had long runs on Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes as well as Green Lantern/Green Arrow and his own creation, Warlord! In the 80’s, he took over writing and drawing Green Arrow. He was the first to draw the character with a hood and place him in a position as a gritty, urban vigilante.
Over at First Comics, he also found much success with his own creation, Jon Sable Freelance.

DEAN MOTTER
He is most known as the writer and artist of his own creation, Mister X. Â A futuristic, noir story that had it’s origins over 30 years ago. Today, the comic has found a home at Dark Horse Comics.
He also wrote the Batman Elseworlds: Nine Lives as well as The Prisoner, based on the old TV Show.
This year saw him create some variant covers for Dynamite’s comic book, The Shadow.

MATT FRANK
He has become the artist most associated with Godzilla comics! He has drawn covers and interiors for the various Godzilla comics published by IDW. His great art certainly bring the classic monster to life.

Artist Spotlight – Dave Johnson & Jai Nitz

DAVE JOHNSON
He is an Eisner winner comic book artist who is known as one of the very best cover artists in comics!
He has done all the covers for the Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso series 100 Bullets as well as many of their other collaborations. In addition, he has had long runs as cover artist on many Marvel MAX titles such as Punisher and Fury. Over at DC Comics, he has also had long runs as cover artist on Detective Comics and Vertigo’s Unknown Soldier among many other titles.
He also did interior pencils for one of the most popular DC Elseworlds stories, Superman: Red Son.
Most recently, he has done covers for Shadowman at Valiant Comics.

JAI NITZ
Jai Nitz has written several comics for many publishers.
He won the Bram Stoker Award for his work on Heaven’s Devils from Image Comics.
Most recently, he had a run on various titles with Dynamite Entertainment, which included: Grimm The Warlock, several Green Hornet & Kato titles, Kirby Genesis Silver Star, and Alex Ross’ Bring The Thunder.
His most recent and powerful work yet is the creator owned, Dream Thief, for Dark Horse. It is about an individual who seeks out vigilante justice on his own but does so in his sleep under the influence of a mysterious mask he stole.

Artist Spotlight – Georges Jeanty & Bob Burden

GEORGES JEANTY
Georges Jeanty has had a long career drawing many titles for Marvel & DC among other publishers.
He is probably most recognized for his long run as artist on Dark Horse’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer comics.
This year also saw him draw the new Serenity mini series from Dark Horse as well as the highly sought after DC Comics villain’s month issue of Joker’s Daughter!

BOB BURDEN
Bob Burden will always be most associated with his most popular creation, Flaming Carrot! He took surrealism and humor in comics to a new level with both Flaming Carrot and also Mystery Men. He has seen his creations published over many different companies over the years. Most recently, he has taken to self publishing his latest works through Kickstarter.

Â The company that was created and founded by Michael Turner is alive and well today under the leadership of Peter Steigerwald and Frank Mastromauro. Tom Feister was the inker of the Eisner winning Wildstorm series, Ex Machina. He was a long time inker for penciller, Tony Harris. He later became cover artist for GI Joe: Origins at IDW as well as other titles for DC, Marvel and Image.

He is one of the most popular artists in comics!
